Hi to all!
First i would like to ask about my problem encountered in my plant.one of my unit in Raw Water for cooling tower i used centrifugal pump with mechanical seal single spring Carbon vs.Silicon.i surprised when i see the rubber came from the stationary seal was dislocated the original location.in short the rubber was out of the gland.in this situation it is possible the problem is the alignment of motor & pumps?or the installation of mechanical seal?
Thanks, Bud

I would think a seal problem - not an alignment problem

when placing stationairy seal, use vaseline on the O ring the O ring might have recoiled (not properly placed)and pushed the stationairy seal out of the seat

There is another possibility other than the suggestion by CH5OH. If there is any chance that the pump suction experienced vacuum, the stationary seal face (mating ring) could have come out of the fit in the gland. The secondary seal (I assume it is an o-ring) could have come out of position. When positive pressure was restored, the o-ring could have been cut as the mating ring was forced back into position in the gland. Johnny Pellin
