Pump Problem

Hi,

We have a Vacuum Pump that we are trying to gear down to reduce the load on our generator.  We've tried using a one of our old VFD's, but all our level switches in our system change state as soon as the drive turns on.  Space is limited between the motor and pump as well.  Motor face to pump face is probably 15" max.  The pump and motor are direct coupled.  I've started looking into some options for pulleys or gear couplers of some sort.  Does anybody have any other ideas?

What kind of a pump?  Might be able to reduce the power requirement by throttling, or disabling some stages.

Is the problem in bringing it up on line, or maintaining it?

this is the high end, have you looked in to one of the shaft mounted torque converter that Browning makes, the take the shock load out very well Bill Loutzenheiser VP-CTO

What was the system problem with the vfd and why do you think belts/pulley's won't create same problem?

In general vfd's are more flexible than pulleys and gears since you can change the speed on the fly. =====================================
