What is the difference between din 5482 p1 and p2? I'm trying to order the document for reference in manufacturing involute splines. I realize that it is an old document but still in use by many people today. The only description difference that I can find is that one is DI and the other is HO. Does this have to do with internal vs. external splines?

Part 1 shows the basic dimensioning for all profiles. Part 2 shows the rack proportions for all the pitches. If you're only manufacturing then all you'll need is part 3. There are 2 pages showing dimensions for over & between pins for the 3 fit tolerances for all profiles. If you're like me and can't be bothered lugging paper work around the workshop, you can purchase a very useful spreadsheet program for DIN5482 from here: http://www.emip.de/home_e.htm Beats wasting the money on a set of out of date standards in hard copy.
